I’m going to the next World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in the summer of 2023. It’s a dream come true for me.

My journey began in August 2021, the day after my dad passed away. He had encouraged me to apply for the Unit Leader role for Avon Scouts. With the help of my brother, I wrote the application and got an interview. I was thrilled to get the main leader role, leading 3 other leaders and 36 Explorer Scouts.

One of my goals was to give a chance to young people who would never dream of applying for such an opportunity. I wanted to have a ‘Dream Place’ for one of them, nominated by a leader. The County agreed to this idea. I will tell you more about my dream place in another blog.

In November 2021, I had my first unit meeting with my team of 40. I was so excited. I made my leaders wear tiger onesies and I built a balloon arch in blue and yellow, the UK Contingent colours. My leaders thought I was crazy. The young people arrived with their parents or carers, still in disbelief that they had been chosen from many other Scouts and Explorer Scouts.

The Unit meet every month either for the day or for a weekend, as well as doing fundraising events .
